I love to travel. Not so much the security line at the airport, but the going to new places and seeing new things part enthralls me. Along the way I've gotten to meet some interesting people. My folks put together a calendar every year that they send out to family and friends. My extended family is large, and my parents have hosted exchange students for 13 years, so the calendar goes out to a lot of people. Flash to yesterday, and I got the email for photo entries for the 2014 calendar (2014!)
As I started going through pictures, I realized it's been an amazing year in the travel department. An incredibly challenging year personally, an unbelievably tough year in some ways, but looking back, I feel fortunate to be here, and blown away by some of the opportunities that have come my way.
Last December, my good friend Mark got married in Tucson, and I went out early to spend a few days hiking and taking some photos around Sedona. I've wanted to go there ever since my days at the U of A, and I'd just never made the time. Now that I've had a taste, I want to go back and spend some serious time there.
January brought a new year, and a trip to The Land of Enchantment for Big Break Mexico. This is the view from the contestant common room at the Iberostar. One of my favorite memories from the show was finishing our day on the course near sundown, and suddenly having a troop of monkeys swinging through the trees around the course. Jungle golf indeed! One of the tough things about working on a reality show is that I can never talk about it until after it's happened. Plus so much happens, and I tend to be working on multiple episodes (and even seasons) at once, it's dangerous to say anything because I might be working on a different week than the viewer is seeing. Aye!
One of the local artists I've met through DRIP (www.ilovedrip.com) put together an art opening at NV Lounge in Downtown Orlando. I dropped by to take some shots of his work.. this was one of my favorites.
In June I got the invitation to travel to Puerto Rico to shoot time-lapse for Big Break NFL! Growing up in Florida, I've know quite a few people that hailed from PR, and I see what all the fuss is about. PR is a beautiful island with friendly people. True story, I call my bank to let them know I'll be traveling. The lady, at the call center that I can in no way suspect of being located in India, told me that there would be an international fee on any transactions since I was leaving the country. Sigh.
Fourth of July! Family fun at the beach in Palm Coast. Fireworks. Swimming pools. Sadly couldn't make it to the golf course due to some injuries, but I could float in the pool. Favorite memory is actually from later in the summer when we went back with my Nephew. He's 5, and loves to spend all day in the pool. I miss my buddy when he's not around.
There's nothing like a home game. It was lovely to get a chance to show off my home state a little bit. You can see it February 2014 on Golf Channel. ;)
